Surf & Serve: Jacob Turner’s Mission Trip to Nicaragua with Surfers for Salvation

We’re excited to share the incredible work of our surf ambassador, Jacob Turner, who recently returned from a transformative mission trip to Nicaragua with Surfers for Salvation. This journey was about more than catching waves—it was about being the hands and feet of Christ, making a lasting impact on children and families in need, and sharing the hope and love of Jesus where it’s needed most.
Empowering Youth Through Surf and Service
Jacob’s mission trip included six young surfers who joined him in Nicaragua for an unforgettable experience. Through their fundraising efforts and the generosity of supporters, they delivered more than surfboards and smiles—they brought hope and vital resources to communities in need.
Supporting the Next Generation of Skaters
A highlight of the trip was the delivery of 40 skateboards, along with hardware and safety gear, to support the action sports ministry of Ride Nature Latin America and The Way Youth Center. These skateboards symbolize freedom, creativity, and the chance for youth to explore new passions in a safe, supportive environment.
Clean Water for Healthier Lives
In six communities, the team distributed 100 water filters, each paired with buckets filled with hygiene and household essentials. Beyond the distribution, they provided education on proper maintenance and usage, ensuring the gift of clean water benefits these families long after the team has left.
Spreading Faith and Hope
Jacob’s team didn’t just bring physical resources—they also provided spiritual nourishment, distributing 400 Spanish Bibles. Given with love and respect, these Bibles offer hope and guidance to those seeking it in their lives.
Investing in Education
The mission also focused on supporting local students, covering tuition, books, and transportation costs for four university students. This investment ensures that these bright minds can continue their education without the burden of financial strain.
Providing Essentials for School Success
Jacob and his team made sure that 146 students across four different communities started their school year on the right foot. Thanks to the support of Salty Crew, they distributed two huge containers of clothing, as well as school uniforms, supplies, backpacks, and shoes. These essentials give students the confidence and tools they need to succeed in their education.
